Kindle Oasis (2019) vs Paperwhite vs Basic | eReader Comparison

  • Comparing the 3rd-gen Kindle Oasis 2019 vs Amazon's Paperwhite and Basic eReaders, to see which is best for you. We cover the eInk display tech, battery life, UI features, waterproofing and other important features, so you know which new Kindle is your ideal reading companion.

Just last week, Amazon released its new Oasis 2019 eReader, complete with screen temperature controls. However, at £229 in the UK, it's a lot more expensive than the Paperwhite and standard models.

That steep price is especially tricky to justify given the Kindle Paperwhite also boasts full IPX8 water resistance and the same crisp 300ppi display resolution. In fact, beyond the auto brightness, colour controls and upgraded design, there's little reason to spend an extra hundred quid on the all new 3rd-generation Oasis.

So which Amazon Kindle are you tempted by? If you're not into graphic novels or swayed by waterproofing, the original model should suit you fine, especially with the new backlit screen.

The Oasis would be only one I would consider getting, because I need to have physical page turn buttons, I just love those. I wish they still made the other model with those, I can’t imagine it would be that hard to do and still maintain the price

I had an Oasis and traded it back to Amazon for the newest Oasis. It is waterproof and I am clumsy. I am mobility challenged and read a lot so the money was worth it for me. I like having mine with high light so use a lot of battery life but I have no problem reading with it plugged in to power. I prefer the type of reader with manual turn page button. Oasis is costly but if you have older eyes I highly recommend it.

Bought the Paper white. Very pleased with it. It’s small enough to put into a jacket pocket read on the bus or train. Top of the range just seemed to be a lot more money for little extra.

I prefer reading with the Kindle Basic. So much comfortable on the eyes than my wife's Paperwhite. ALso prefer it with the light off.

I have a paper white it has 3252 Books on it. I have to remove books in order to purchase more. With this volume sorting is a very high priority with me. The Apple IIe I bought in 1983 had much better sorting options than the the Kendle. Once you have a Kendle you WILL never be with out one. PS the battery sucks I charge mine twice a day or more. My brother has the paper white i was going for the oasis

But after checking my finances i went for the kindle

Me and my brother like it more idk there is something about ridges around the screen

that makes the reading more immersive its like starring into a window i really lose track of time when reading on it!

Personally I think Ipad is better. Devices can do a lot more than be a eReader

Great review! I have the 2015 and it's surprising how they haven't changed that much. I would like the higher DPI, flat screen but I'm waiting for the auto dimming screen. I keep them long enough that the Oasis would be a decent investment but it's kinda overpriced for what one gets. I'll wait another year or two as they aren't evolving because Amazon has no real competition.

    Take my advice.
Never buy something with e-ink display. Go for iPad. That's way better. I Wasted my money on Kindle. E-ink display fades away over time. Mine faded away in 1.5 years. And I didn't used it much. Always kept it safe.
