Just a little thing: Holland is NOT a country is a «provincie» Nederland in the name of the country. Please respect our neighbours. I'm from Belgium.

+No Comment but Norge and Norway are the same thing. The equivalent to Nederland is the Netherlands and not Holland. Holland is only a part of the country.

+Polū Holland is not the biggest province. There are two provinces, namely North - Holland and South - Holland. Gelderland is the biggest when it comes to its space. But the Hollands have the most inhabitants.

The Gouda you have is not real Gouda, it's essentially a mimic product made in the US and it would be illegal to sell it in Europe, because Gouda is a trademark and only cheese from Gouda ( a city in the NETHERLANDS, NOT HOLLAND ) is allowed to be called Gouda and the facts that it says trader Joe's ( American brand ) and Holland ( incorrect reverence to the country, though admittedly Gouda does lie in the province of South Holland ) and that it says Dutch smoked cheese rather than actually call it Gou...

Being a resident in France, seeing Dutch cheese written on the packaging reminded me how American this is ahah French people really care about the kind of cheese as well as the provenance, and it would have been Gouda on it ^^ and the aversion to blue stilton (and mouldy cheese) hurts me at my very core ahah blue stilton isn't even the most "funky"cheese, there are not-mouldy ones that would hurt your nose so much (pont l'évêque, reblochon, camembert...) Also, comté is nothing like blue chees...

+everberry51 In France, you can trace every cheese back to its individual farm, if you know how to read the numbers written on it (I learned from my French father-in-law, who studied agriculture at university). But, if it's AOC/AOP cheese, then yes, the specific city (not the region or department) is written in plain language, too

  • everberry51

So in France, is the province where the cheese is from printed on the label?
