Turn a ceiling fan into a wind turbine generator?!

  • A ceiling fan looks similar to a wind turbine, so one may wonder if it can be used as such. Most ceiling fans are induction motors, that don't generate electricity when being turned. You will have to add magnets. That and many other points are dealt with in this experiment. The goal of this video is to learn how stuff works, and to help everybody who wants to try this conversion themselves. I hope you can learn from my experiment, and make a better version.

Put a resistor before capacitor, or a zener diode?

you an use a wired bulb of say 100volts inline to use as a regulator to burn off anything above that voltage . its a very old hack. and makes a instant indicator. or get a tossed trashed apc battery backup, remove the bad battery , connect the turbine to the old battery input . you then have a well regulated 110v out.

What if you put a small bicycle wheel on the outside with magnets facing the south pole in and on the sides of the fan magnets facing north or viseversa so that it'll spin on it's own?

how to improve? you need a battery to collect the electricity .. a car or motorcycle battery would be great for that and also has real usage scenario in a devestated world

Thank you very much! Now all we have to do is make everything run with less power, I installed a split air conditioner, it runs on 6 amps, the fan is powered by dc voltage. Compared to my old system, the cost to run was cut in half! If you want to build a generator in a unique way: https://homemade-generator-tao.blogspot.com/2019/12/homemade-generator-alternator.html

You can use this design to power an electric bike, I know it was done and all but this sparked my inventor side ... good video, feel thank you ..

I would have left the secondary coils in place and used them as a braking system so your generator wont over spin.

Excellent my friend, by removing the lacquer coating inside of the stator stuff steel wool solder contact points back full with glue. Increased contact increased conductivity.

90% of all ceiling fans already have magnets built in. you can use them directly for wind power. No modifications needed. But better blades is preferred.

This bozo picks a ceiling fan that needs lots of modifications!

Buy the cheapest you can find, chances are good, it will work right off!

I literally picked up fans and lightbulbs in the same isle, at the dollars store, and plugged them into each other and gave it a spin, most bulbs, light up! before i bought anything!
