Nice info but can you please tell us the situation combining lens hoods with lens filters? When and how can we attach a lens hood at same time as using an ND filter for example? Do all filters negate using a lens hood? Do we need a different size lens hood? What size or how do we need to determine that? This is important everyday use since as you said a lens hood is important but we know ND filters are important.

A full hood will also shield the lens from dew in outdoor settings. This is useful to astrophotographers and for star photos.

I've been thinking about that extra $30 for a Canon lens hood. I think it may be about a lot more than squeezing thirty bucks out of the consumer. Not including it and forcing you to check it out may imprint on the potential buyer that Canon stuff is great, superior to other products, and you'll want only Canon lenses and accessories, or else how could we get away with charging so much? A businessperson in the food industry told me one marketing technique is to overcharge for your product. Yes, people are that dumb. I've fallen for it myself.

Four out of four stars. So many people on YT think just because they know how to operate given equipment they can explain same. Not so! My problem with hoods is I never kept them stored near the associated lenses. From now on every lens I pick up I might buy a cheap hood if I don't already have one.

FINALLY!!! A pro who understands that we Blue collar people DON'T have money to burn on Camera equipment!! I was sooooo impressed with your direct approach to buying what works and NOT what has Nikon or Leica on it. I live on a S/S income, and enjoy my photography. I just bought my first DSLR. I've been a film guy my whole life, but with the increasing difficulty in finding film and processing, I decided to "Bite the Bullet" and I bought a Nikon D3100 a few years ago. I have a small hobby business making 18th. and 19th. century knives and Black Powder shooting accessories. I use photography in my business for my product shots. I'll be viewing more of YOUR videos. Thank you very much.
