  • Shortly after my baby Wes was born, he got sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It completely tore me apart.

I have been trying to figure out how I want to tell this story for weeks. I kept recutting this video, reliving the emotions. It has been hard.

But it's a story I want to share. I hope that it makes others who have been through or are currently going through similar experiences feel less alone. I hope that it inspires you personally, and fills you with hope that life, despite its challenges, after all, can be beautiful.

    -Ned

P.S. A HUGE thank you to all of the nurses, doctors, and administrators at the NICU and all hospitals. We appreciate you so so much.

Okay, I never had to do a carseat test with either of my children. Is that just for preemies?

I totally understand your emotions, my child is currently 9 months old. Through my pregnancy everything went completely fine when we lived in LA. When I was probably 5 to 6 months pregnant we moved to Lancaster. That's when everything changed. We found out the our baby was not growing in my stomach. I had a C-section done in emergency because my child was 35 weeks old but physically had stopped growing and has the weight of a 28 weeker. He spent a full month in the NICU and had been diagnosed Wolf-Hirschorn syndrome. It was one of the toughest days of my life. But he has grown to be the most beautiful baby I could ever wish for. He fulfills our lives. My life. ❤ stay strong.

I went to NICU. I needed a heart operation. The doctor said I wouldn’t be able to walk but I am now the fastest runner in my class.

I stayed under blue lights a few days after birth because of a bilirubin problem, and my mom also said it was terrifying to see all these babies that were not healthy (prematures...), she was hoping that I wouldn't stay for a long time... (sorry for my english I'm french but I wanted to share)

I cried watching this. I know he'll be an amazing father. Unlike my sperm donor of a father. 😊

Sorry folks... we've been bringing home babies in car seats for a long time and this procedure was BS. And yes, if you do so safely, pull over and hold your baby to stop the fussing.

I was a NICU baby, too. I was born with spina bifida and had to have surgery nine hours after birth. I had a second surgery for hydrocephalus at two days old and another one at five days old. After two weeks they finally let me go home. Today I’m 21, I’ve had a dozen surgeries and I’m thriving. Best of luck with your little one. ❤️❤️❤️

I was also born early, like Wes, and spent my first nine days in NICU. I'm working towards med school at the moment, and thinking about going into neonatology - a field that I wouldn't be here without. I can't imagine what it's like to be looking at your child in a NICU incubator - you, Ariel, and Wes are stronger for it. I know that I am :D
