  • Animals seem to have the ability to put smiles on our faces, even during difficult times. Their presence alone can lift our spirits when we’re feeling depressed, and the positive difference they can make in our lives is often enormous.

Doug Dawson works at a nursing home in Minnesota. One day, he brought his adorable teacup poodle, Nala, to work with him. Shortly after arriving, Nala started to do something surprising whenever she saw the residents. Just see for yourself…

Doug Dawson has worked at St. Paul, Minnesota’s Lyngblomsten nursing home for years. He often works very long hours. One day, he decided to bring his teacup poodle, Nala, to the center with him to alleviate her boredom at home.

Unbelievable! WHAT a truly beautiful hearted dog!....I’m also SO happy her dad (Doug) decided to try it out one day! Now she isn’t bored anymore but wow! .....What a cool pup!❤️❤️❤️ I’m JUST so happy for both Doug and Nala...not to mention all of the people Nala sees! I’m not there YET but...if I were in that nursing home...I would have it on my calendar looking forward to the day of the week I knew Nola would stop by!!! I can only IMAGINE the importance! What the kiddoe does, and, all by herself...is truly PRICELESS!❤️❤️❤️

Wonderful story! When I lived in NH, my boyfriend was the director of a nursing home. Actually for the benefit & socialization of the dog, I started taking my miniature poodle there also hoping the residents would enjoy him. I was amazed by how well he did, considering he hadn't even had leash training yet (7 months old.) He would calmly & gently put his front paws on people's laps who were in a wheelchair so they could pet him, and on the edge of beds so those who couldn't get up could pet or at least see him. We went to each floor with him doing the same. He didn't seem to get anxious or bored, & thank goodness he didn't pee anywhere! This is a great thing to do & I would encourage anyone with a calm, outgoing dog to look into it. It benefits everyone involved - there are a lot of nursing home residents who don't receive any visitors at all.

People who have to be looked after still need to feel like they are looking after a little someone. Dogs are special, Cats too. I wonder if bunnies would be good?

This is a perfect example of why puppers belong with all people no matter their health, age or role! Perfect story. If all nursing homes, hospices - even hospitals - would rescue and adopt dogs from overcrowded shelters, the rewards would be endless. They really do have much of everything to give - everything from their presence to endless kisses!

All the nursing homes needs the dogs and cats to cheer them up!! Not surprised at how well it works! I spent much time as a child in the hospital and had an elderly lady that was a family friend came to see me quit often. She came one time carrying a woven bag with a puppy in it. Didn't know at the time it was my puppy!! When she pulled her out of that bag a nurse come walking in, she said that was the first time she saw me have such a smile on my face. She shut the door and grabbed extra blankets in order to keep the dog hair off due to infections. She said she heard the puppy coming down the hall, but she will let her stay for a short time as long as we keep the door closed and don't be real long. That was an AWSOME feeling that I will never forget!!! As she was leaving she told me that she will be at my house waiting for me to get better and come home. Didn't think I was ever going to go home but I knew she would be there.BTW I named her Topside. It is good therapy to have these animals to visit people who are sick and lonely, keep doing this it make a big difference!
