We've seen a lot of Spider-Man lately. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and soon Spider-Man: Far From Home. Before that we saw Andrew Garfield slinging webs with Emma Stone for a couple movies, but I want you to think FURTHER back. That's right, I'm talking Tobey Maguire Spider-Man.
Remember how at the end of his first movie EVERYTHING had gone wrong? Norman Osborn - the Green Goblin - was gone, his best friend was fatherless, Uncle Ben did what all Uncle Ben's do, etc.. It was all very sad. In Spider-Man 2, we see a Spider-Man without his powers. I want to talk about WHY he lost his powers. What made our friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man just plain, old Peter Parker?

Jokes aside this is the most wholesome video about a superhero suffering from mental health I have ever seen.It may not the original intention of the director or it was either one this put in an even better depth of the Spiderman trilogy and made the second one (which it could be the best out of all three) even better than before.

+klop422 there is, imagine being at fault or feeling at fault for the death of both your father figures. He has recurring dreams, and so on. Even in the comics, mental stress causes him to lose his power

+Veit Zeret As far as I can tell, there's nothing in the movie about PTSD, at the very least?

The real question in the movie is can you make and deliver 8 extra large deep dish pizzas across 42 blocks in New York in 29 minutes

not to mention he was already late and only have seven and a half minute to deliver the pizza.

It's definitely better than that weird hash of random beeps and boops that sounds like a dreadful attempt at an 8-bit song yet is on *Film* Theory and not *Game* Theory.

I really like this theory. I never really thought of PTSD. Honestly, I thought his power loss was a metaphor to his responsibility as Spider-Man and Peter Parker. In Spider-Man 2, Peter was seen not acting responsibly. He lost his job, he’s late for class, he misses out in his social life, etc. he only focused on be Spider-Man. I believe his power loss was a metaphor representing his irresponsibility and his abilities start to fade away due to this. As soon as he starts to adapt and accept his powerles...

Good way of putting it! I always figure similarly, I never put the actual term of PTSD on it but I always understood it was related to Peter's mentality. I agree with MatPat especially at the end there, the film should have really pushed to make it more obvious the battle isn't convenient plot device but PTSD and that he worked to overcome it. Yeah the stigma on mental health was just as alive then as it is now but that's exactly why it should have been included back then, could have been a milestone i...
