As a new player who started a couple of months ago, I have found the game very unsociable, even after joining guilds. No one would communicate in the world whilst questing and the dungeons didn't feel like a team game because they were all a bit of a steamroll. I assume most social stuff is max level, but I feel Blizzard would do well to encourage group questing, or mentoring. It would be fun to meet people as you level through the game as a new player, and build a social group as you grow, rather than feeling like a 2nd class player.

sharding ruins the community aspect of servers - seeing little to no people within my shard is incredibly boring and the inability to see my friends whether we are in the same faction (except when we group) and on the opposing faction is incredibly annoying. sometimes my friends and i just want to see each other in warmode and hunt each other down.
reducing the amount of sharded instances within a server would greatly improve the social accept of just being able to see more players, while retaining blizz's solution to having too many people phased into one server

I find that the RP servers seem to be the most social. I've played on a lot of servers and you seem to have the most random interactions on the RP ones. Just look for anyone RP walking and speak with them, most will respond.

The game isn't NEARLY as social as it was 8 years ago. Everyone just wants to get things done and log out. It's sad :(
