  • Firehouses and Dalmatians are essentially the perfect pair. Those humble spotted dogs have become synonymous with firefighting, although most people probably couldn’t tell you why.

While firefighters of the past had their legitimate reasons for keeping a Dalmatian on the firehouse premises, the heroes at the Belmont Fire Department in Greenville, South Carolina, have a completely different mascot.

Best of all was how she came into her valued position…

There is a halmark movie similar to this, "the Nine lives of Christmas" and they even remarked about being "the first fire house to have a cat mascot"

Awww as a former EMT-BASIC ,that has own both cats and dogs , I think more fire departments, EMS stations, and police stations need to own a cat or two. They helped me more than my dogs ever did. Don't get me wrong my dogs did help me, but my cats help me more in the most needed areas. Nothing is more calming and soothing than a warm cat curled up on you or next to you purring their soft purr.

If you ever heard a cat yell. Then you would I think that they will be better suited for a role of the fire signal.

Pets provide stress relief & lower blood pressure. I reckon these firefighters have had tough days working b4 Blaze showed up & now they don't find it so tough.

We had this same thing at my station and we named the cat flame in Nixville SC (Hampton county) . Sadly flame hid on the engine going to a call and someone else ended up taking him in, but he is happy and that's all that matters with us
