I went to middle school with him and played junior Rugby with him. Was a good mate. But even back then we all knew he was going to be a great batsman. He was also a pretty decent footballer as well. Was normally the winner of one touch, one bounce. Didn't grow that much though!!! Plus because we have the same first name we were referred to by our surnames. And mine ain't that great!!!!

Let me guess we weren't really up against it at the time. And we didn't need someone with some backbone to really knuckle under.

as great as ian was he was never going to be considered a 'great' as they name an 'end' at a cricket ground after the 'greats'

imagine the ' Bell End '

Most aesthetically pleasing batsman I've ever watched. And that's not bias, my favourite batsman or bowlers off all time aren't English. His technique was perfect. Players can play shots as good but no better.

Bell was a wonderful timer of the ball he did not have or need power it was all timing and placement. Even in the short space of time since he left the test match team the game has changed and perhaps the only player in the current England side with his timing talents would be Joe Root.

Stick him in instead of that idiot Ali.who can't bat, rarely puts a bowling shift in. A big weak link in the England side.

Class act should still be with England instead of the clowns we have to put up with.
