  • The Miss America Pageant…how is this still a thing?
They claim to give more scholarships to women than any other organization, and, unfortunately, they’re right.
To illustrate these problems, John Oliver stages his own pageant with the help of Kathy Griffin.

Here are the links to the women's scholarship funds that John mentioned on air:

Jeanette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund: www.rankinfoundation.org

Isn't the US the only place in the world that still does this crap on TV ?

I have to admit, I'm kinda cheered up by Miss Virginia's attempt to "solve ISIS" at 3:40. Yes, the U.S. should definitely be cultivating and coordinating international efforts to marshal the resources of multiple nations to oppose terrorist groups. It's a hell of a lot better than I could have done in 20 seconds even if I wasn't wearing a minidress and high heels at the time.

In a Japanese alt fashion community, there's a glue similar to what they use to keep the swimsuits on, only the community uses it to keep socks from rolling down. That doesn't make it any less weird.

I hate to say it but, Trump is right. Only pretty people are on tv. It doesn't matter about men.

I mean if you enjoy doing it then go for it. You know your going to be subjected to traditional beauty standards. And you know you would get a pretty good prize at the end. One for men sounds great and if they want to do that go ahead. ( might be better to just do one that includes everyone, men, women, non binary, etc) personally it looks kinda fun (except the but glue)

Now I dont like these pagents one bit but Johnny in western countries well over 70 percent of post secondary education graduates are women so it seems women dont actually need these scholarships

I'm from south-Africa and I can probably string a better sentence together than she did. (Granted, she was under a lot of stress probably, so benefit of the doubt)
