  • Final Fantasy VIII remastered review is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the PlayStation console. Released in 1999, it is the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. Set on an unnamed fantasy world with science fiction elements, the game follows a group of young mercenaries, led by Squall Leonhart, as they are drawn into a conflict sparked by Ultimecia, a sorceress from the future who wishes to compress time. During the quest to defeat Ultimecia, Squall struggles with his role as leader and develops a romance with one of his comrades, Rinoa Heartilly. The remastered version was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in September 2019.

Despite the lazy remaster it's still an epic game.

I liked the draw system, but it was boring. Cant really think of a way to make stealing magic any more exciting. Except maybe making it more effective so you dont have to do it as much.

This was the only FF that was just okay imo. The rest of the series is top notch.

i can wait for another 5 years for a remake and without the draw system, instead of this old school. that draw system killed the fun out of this game. i want to see quistis with modern graphics

It’s kinda boring watching someone who loves something before he’s experienced it. Because then you just hear him validate all of his preconceptions. Much like his switch lite review.

People make such a big deal about drawing and junctions...it allows you to play the way you want to, and that's what makes it fantastic. I take that over the slog of FFIX any daym

Final Fantasy 8 was the only offline mainline FF game that I hadn't played yet and boy and I glad I did! I really enjoyed my time with this title and getting to know the junction system and oh my God the card game is so much fun when you implement it into the combat via card modding! I personally really liked the story and it's weirdness, I didn't feel like it was stupid at all just mind tripping. And the music is honestly beautiful. When Fithos Lusec Wethos Vinosse starts playing near the end of disc 1, that's when I got goosebumps.

I remember being in elementary school and I came home to find a box wrapped up on my bed. I opened the game and low and behold their it was in all its glory ff8. My family was very poor yet my parents bought me a ps one and went onto their way to save the money to buy it for me on launch day. This game was my all time favourite game on PlayStation one and has yet to be dethroned by any title from ps one to ps4 hands down ff8 for the win!

the ff9 remaster has low res backgrounds with hi res models so I don't see why that matters

Honestly they just cleaned it up slightly, and mainly relied upon some heavy anti aliasing, which technically " smoothes " out edges, but mainly by making them blurry. meh

They seriously want $30 for this shit? LOL! I'm sorry, but no. Low-effort remasters like this one need to stop.

The backgrounds look like shit because they aren't pixelated. They're upscaled and blurry.
