What a shame he retired so early, he was a fantastic player for England.

Probably a lost gem of an opener for England. His sudden disappearance form the international circuit caused a lot of problems for England to find a suitable opener. Such class and fluidity in batting is not seen nowadays. Maybe won't happen, but I hope he's called up for one last swansong.

Well this is also true that if he hadn't have retired we wouldn't have gotten Alistair Cook.

My favourite player of my generation. I knew of Marcus when he was a teenager.Saw him play many times and fully deserves all the England caps and runs he has.Living with depression isnt easy. But Marcus has shown us that it is possible to be the best at any discipline. Or do any job you want to do. If you show detirmination, grit and a will to win. Oh and did he win. Thanks Marcus for the great memories.

@Aaditya Krishna Trescothick was better than Cook. Trescothick was great at both Tests and ODIs while Cook was only great at Tests.
